Lac Cultivation and Processing Project Under RKVY (Jila Panchayat)

Background

  • Palas, Ber and Kusum which are potential lac host plants available in sufficient quantity in tribal dominated blocks of Rajnandgaon district.
  • At present Some of the tribals are cultivating lac in these plants but still the output is very meagre as they had been adopting traditional methods.
  • Its give an opportunity to generate additional income from an existing resources.
  • Scientific method of lac cultivation can be spread among tribal farmers through extensive training programmes and demonstrations
  • Establishment of small scale processing unit encourage farmers to adopt the scientific method of lac cultivation thereby giving them reasonably good price for their produce.
  • Most of the farm families sell the raw lac just plucked from the trees at very nominal price.
  • It is mostly fetched by the middlemen who then sell it at a higher price
  • These families are unaware about modern techniques they are unable to produce sufficient.
  • Improved Lac cultivation provide a sustainable source of income to tribal and rural people of Rajnandgaon district.
  • Equal participation of women so that they can be economically empowered and be a decision maker in the family.
